| David
Haye v Monte Barrett betting from William Hill |
David Haye steps up
to the heavyweight plate for the second time as a professional on
Saturday night, where he'll come face-to-face with the experienced but
ageing Monte Barrett.
David Haye will have to be at his best after Barrett scored a stunning
first round knockout over Tye Fields in his last fight. Barrett is
renowned for his durability and an extremley dangerous right hand, and
at 37, Haye will be nothing new to the experienced fighter.
Barrett in his time has fought a who's who of former champions, so will
be an excellent guide to Haye's prospects of progressing in the
division on his quest to become heavyweight Champion Of The World.
Should Haye score a facile victory, then his prospects and future in
the top weight class will be taken a lot more seriously and throw open
the opportunity of more mouth - watering encounters against some of the
biggest hitters around.
Either way this should be a fascinating encounter, with Barrett
claiming has unfinished business in the UK as last time he fought here
he lost to Wladimir Klitschko.
In the pre match build up, while Haye has shown a lot of respect for
his opponent, Barrett has suggested that Haye will get "annihaltated"
and that despite his advancing years, he is as hungry as ever for
victory.
London's O2 arena is the host for the second leg
of Setanta Sports'
big
bout double, following on from last week's impressive showing from Joe Calzaghe, who
gave Roy Jones Jr
a beating for 11 of the 12 rounds.

| David
Haye - view his entire careeer as a professional |

|
David "Hayemaker" Haye
has been a professional for almost six years, with a near perfect
record; his only loss came in 2004 as a cruiserweight, to ex-WBO
champion Carl Thompson. Haye held the WBA, WBC, WBO and The
Ring
world cruiserweight titles until giving them up for this match, and
another shot at the heavyweight division. There is talk of a
potential title fight with Wladimir Klitschko, although the Ukranian
has stated he will
only commit to the bout once Haye has established himself as a true
contender to the belt. As a former world amateur heavyweight
champion, Haye may find his feet sooner than Klitschko thinks - his
only previous fight at this weight
was a convincing TKO of Tomasz Bonin. The current
crop of
heavyweight fighters had better beware - Haye means business.

| Monte Barrett - view
his last 10 years as a professional |
A resident of
Queens, New York City, 37 year old Barrett comes into this fight as a
big underdog - but only in the minds of those making the odds.
He is determined to prove all the doubters wrong, and should
certainly provide a stern test to Haye's ambitions. With an
impressive 37-3 amateur record, he's been a professional for twice as
long as his opponent, and only lost six times; check out his record
below and you'll see those defeats came to some big names in
the heavyweight division - names such as Valuev, Klitschko and
Rahman. He burst onto the scene in spectacular fashion with a
first round knockout of Jamal Edward, then went a further 20 bouts
without tasting defeat, before a disputed split-decision in favour of
Lance Whitaker cost him his unbeaten record. [more...]
